Baggrund

Four years ago, The Org was founded with a mission to make the workplace more transparent. We knew that when organizations operate more transparently with their employees, they often have a stronger company culture and increased employee engagement. On the other hand, when there is a lack of transparency in an organization it causes employees to feel disconnected, distrusting and undervalued. As a result, businesses struggle to attract, align and retain their employees and that hinders their growth. We want to improve this with The Org.

Our founders created the concept of The Org after reading an article written by The Information, called “The People Who Matter at Airbnb.” The story covered the top 70 people at Airbnb and it revealed the company’s organizational chart, with Airbnb’s CEO sitting at the top of the pyramid and the employees that reported to him stretching out below. While org charts are traditionally used as a private tool to map out a company’s structure, when Airbnb’s infographic was made public it went viral both internally and externally. This widespread interest proved that there was a collective urge to know more about the people we work with and the organizations we work for. That is why we created the org: a professional community for teams.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, it has only become more important to create alignment, a sense of connection, and a sense of belonging in your company. Millions of workers have left their jobs in search of positions with a better work/life balance, more opportunity for growth, and a culture that is inclusive and collaborative. We believe that if organizations are given the right tools to be more transparent, it will not only improve company culture and help them to scale and retain employees, but it will also lead to a world that is more accountable, open and inclusive as a whole.

The Org’s solution is a global, publicly viewable database of company organizational charts to help businesses operate more transparently. This network of public org charts gives professionals greater visibility within their organization, and it helps businesses attract, align and retain greater and more diverse talent. The Org is designed to allow companies to show off their greatest asset: its people. We believe that if we can help organizations shine a light on all the people that make their mission possible, everyone will benefit. Teams will feel more aligned and satisfied and celebrating them will help attract more successful employees to the organization.

Public org charts are especially useful for startups and small organizations, as they often struggle with hiring, onboarding and structuring their teams in the early stages of growth. The Org helps high growth companies combat the challenges of hiring by giving job seekers more context and information into the organization. By viewing a company’s org chart, professionals are able to meet the team before they even start the interview process. They can read about current employees’ professional backgrounds, personal interests and role in the organization on their position pages. Additionally, org charts allow job seekers to examine the company’s structure, culture, diversity and focus areas ahead of time.

With our jobs platform, businesses can add vacant positions directly into their org chart, giving potential employees a clear picture of how their role will contribute to the whole organization.
For additional hiring help, we offer a tech-enabled alternative to traditional recruitment called Scout, which is a service tailored to a growing startup’s hiring needs.

The Org helps streamline the onboarding process for new hires and foster a stronger sense of community amongst current employees. Team members are able to stay up to date on new hires, promotions, team changes and other org chart alterations directly from the homepage. Additionally, with our press release feature called ‘wires’, organizations can ensure their employees stay in the know about all internal updates and company announcements. Finally, our tech news and content platform, Insights, helps professionals become more knowledgeable and dedicated workers.

To top it all off, The Org is a completely free database. That means organizations are able to promote their vacant positions, show off their teams to potential hires or investors and help their employees build better working relationships and much more, all for no cost. We believe that The Org will become the primary tool for people to share and consume team information.

Resultat

Since The Org’s inceptions we have seen impressive growth. The beta version of our website launched in 2018 and our database saw a consistent 50% growth month over month. Today, The Org is the world's largest network of public org charts. We now have a database of 140,000 companies, more than 150,000 registered users and we see 25,000 daily visitors. The Org helps companies around the world use transparency to enable better internal communication and external collaboration.

“Up-to-date org charts can be useful for everything from recruiting to sales, but they are difficult and time consuming to piece together. The Org is making this valuable information easily accessible in a way we were never able to do at LinkedIn,” said Keith Rabois, Partner at Founders Fund.

The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic played a large role in our growth. In February of 2020, we had 100,000 monthly visitors. Now, two years later we have close to 1 million visitors each month. This speaks to the common need to foster better alignment, engagement and communication in the workplace.

Insights, our content platform, brings in around 1,000 daily readers and our weekly newsletter goes out to a subscribed list of 65,000 users. We have crafted over a wide range of stories and been able to interview leaders both from tech giants like Google and future unicorns such as Bubble.

Hiring wise, Scout has worked with 90 organizations and helped find top tier talent for 130 different roles. They have worked with large clients such as Divvy Homes and Vivino. We have over 2600 jobs posted from 400 organizations who use our jobs platform to attract the right hires to their teams.

In 2017 our CEO declared, “We are going to build every org chart in the world, let people edit the org charts, and that’s how we’re going to build the world’s biggest platform for teams.” While we still have so much more that we aim to accomplish, I believe we have already done that.
